The AI startup, Lovable, has announced the launch of SheBuilds, a 48-hour buildathon designed specifically for women to encourage greater female participation in technology entrepreneurship. The remote event, which is scheduled for 6 and 7 October, aims to leverage Lovable’s no-code AI platform to empower women to transform their ideas into working applications, regardless of their coding experience.
Lovable was recently hailed as the fastest-growing software company to reach $100 million in annual recurring revenue, achieving this milestone in just eight months while amassing over 2.3 million active users.
The company’s recent $200 million Series A funding round, led by Accel, valued the platform at $1.8 billion, although since then reporting in the Financial Times indicates that Lovable is now fielding investment offers valuing the company at more than $4 billion, reflecting the intense investor interest in “vibe coding” startups.
Addressing Underrepresentation in Tech Leadership
Elena Verna, Growth Lead at Lovable, emphasised the buildathon’s mission to tackle the persistent gender imbalance in technology leadership roles:
“Women are still massively underrepresented in founder roles. Vibe coding can change that. Let’s prove it, one buildathon at a time.”
The buildathon is open to female applicants across all skill levels, from complete beginners to experienced developers, emphasising accessibility and support as core principles of the event.
Platform Capabilities and Prize Structure
Participants will receive unlimited Lovable credits during the buildathon, allowing them to fully utilise the platform’s AI-powered development capabilities. The winning participant will receive 5,000 credits along with mentorship opportunities with Elena Verna.
Lovable’s platform has demonstrated remarkable growth, with over 10 million projects created to date and more than 100,000 new projects being created each day. The platform’s recent upgrade to full agentic capabilities provides AI reasoning that can think through problems, make plans, and proactively take actions like a human developer, whilst reducing errors by 91%.
Expanding Access to Software Creation
The SheBuilds initiative aligns with Lovable’s broader mission to democratise software development. Unlike traditional AI coding tools designed for professional developers, Lovable focuses on enabling both technical and non-technical users to build production-grade applications.
Anton Osika, CEO and Co-Founder of Lovable, has previously articulated this vision:
“The biggest barrier to building businesses is coding. 99 per cent of people have great ideas and can execute on a business, but they don’t know how to write code. Lovable means anyone can go from idea to software in minutes.”
The platform’s agentic AI capabilities enable it to interpret requests, explore codebases, make appropriate changes, and resolve issues autonomously. Additional features include real-time web searching for documentation and content, automatic error debugging through log and network activity inspection, and contextual file reading to understand application structure.
Event Structure and Application Process
SheBuilds applications are open until 29 September, with the event designed to provide women with dedicated space, tools, and encouragement to transform concepts into functional applications. The 48-hour format allows participants to experience the full development cycle using Lovable’s AI-powered platform.
The remote format ensures broad accessibility, enabling participation from women across different geographic locations and time zones. This approach aligns with current trends towards inclusive, barrier-free technology events that prioritise participation over physical presence.
